After Care

Tattoo after care instructions

healing with the derm shield

Initial Bandage
Leave the bandage on for 24 hours unless otherwise instructed.
It’s normal to see fluid, ink, or blood collect under the film.
Removing the Bandage
Gently peel it off under warm running water.
Do not rip or force it — peel slowly, pulling the bandage back over itself, not straight up.
Cleaning
Wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free antibacterial soap.
Pat dry with a clean paper towel (do not rub).
Optional Second Bandage
You may apply a fresh piece of Saniderm for another 24–48 hours.
Do not wear any bandage longer than 3 days total.
After Bandage Removal
Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free, dye-free lotion or ointment (Aquaphor or a product recommended by your artist).
Wash gently once or twice daily and moisturize as needed.

healing without the derm shield

Initial Bandage
Leave the bandage applied by your artist on for 2–4 hours.
Remove it carefully and do not re-bandage unless instructed.
Cleaning
Wash gently with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free antibacterial soap.
Pat dry with a clean paper towel (never use a towel that can harbor bacteria).
Moisturizing
Apply a very thin layer of recommended tattoo ointment or fragrance-free lotion (Aquaphor or a product recommended by your artist).
Do this 2–3 times daily. Do not over-moisturize (tattoo should not look wet or shiny).
Healing Process
Expect redness, light swelling, scabbing, and peeling.
Do not scratch, pick, or peel flakes — let them fall off naturally.
